Welcome to Shooting Fun! This isn’t just a place to shoot; it’s a business built on generations of passion, dedication, and a deep love for sport shooting. Join us as we walk down memory lane and explore the story of how our ranges came to be, from my father’s dream to the legacy we continue to build.

It all started with my dad, Alf Theron. Back in 2017, he had a simple vision: to create a space where folks could come together and share his love for shooting. My father served as a police officer for 12 years and then opened his own firearm store, which he owned for many years afterward. With a lifetime of knowledge, he wished to teach others in a fun yet safe and informative manner.
Building from the Ground Up
The early days were all about hard work and determination. We spent months digging out trenches and building shooting stands. Building custom targets and shooting traps filled our winters. Money was tight, and progress was slow initially. But after two years, we were a fully functioning gun range with multiple ranges for various shooting disciplines such as clay target shooting, large caliber rifle ranges, and tactical “run and gun” ranges.

Growing Up on the Range
Some of my earliest memories are the smell of gunpowder and the roar of gunfire echoing through the valleys. I practically grew up on the range! Since I was six years old and big enough to hold a gun on my own, I’ve been training and slowly working my way through basically any caliber known to man. At 16 years old, I became an apprentice on the range and spent years learning from the best. One of my fondest memories was going to training days, where at the end of the shoot we would all load up any leftover ammunition and mag dump our ammo as fast as we possibly could. I mean, can you imagine? Six to eight guys with over 100 rounds each, all shooting simultaneously in less than five seconds. What a sight to behold!

Learning the Ropes
My dad taught me everything I know and sent me for even more training, where I earned every kind of competency you could think of… and then some. I have years of dedication to firearm safety, marksmanship, and the overall importance and respect for the sport.

Taking the Reins
After school, I went into private security, where I spent three years in armed reaction followed by resort security management. Unfortunately, my father passed away suddenly in 2022. Following his passing, I left my previous place of employment and took over my father’s company, which has been a blessing. I am at home on the range; it’s in my blood.
Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future
Following my father’s passing, I expanded and relocated our business, where I partnered up with Black Duck Shooting Range, for which I am eternally grateful. I have tried to maintain my father’s spirit by keeping the same friendly atmosphere and commitment to safety he established. I have added new features such as access to various ranges, new firearms, and new firearm shooting programs to keep the range modern and attract a new generation of shooters.

The Family Tradition Continues
Looking Ahead
I am currently in the process of studying to get my assessor and facilitator certificates, which I will follow up with getting my SAPS accreditation so I can then issue and provide firearm competency training. My hope is to continue providing a safe place where family and friends can learn about firearms and make their own memories. Who knows, maybe one day my kids might take over and run the show ๐
